Read this before you assemble, charge or ride a SiFly eFoil.

Efoiling is a water sport with real risks. Misuse of this product, or failure to follow these instructions, can cause serious injury or death, and damage to the product, other property, wildlife or other people.
 
1. General
•    eFoiling carries risks that cannot be removed. By using this product you accept those risks.
•    Read the full User Manual and watch the official SiFly instructional videos before first use. This document is a summary, not a replacement for the manual.
•    This product is not a toy.
•    The SiFly eFoil is for recreational use on water, by one rider at a time.
•    Do not use the eFoil to carry passengers, tow people, tow objects, be towed, or as a means of transport.
•    Do not operate the propulsion system on land.
•    Do not exceed the maximum rider and load weight stated for your model.
•    Only use the product when it is complete, correctly assembled, undamaged and fully working.
•    If you lend, rent, resell or give it away, make sure to direct the new party to the latest safety information on the Sifly website.
•    If you allow another person to ride, you are responsible for making sure they have read these warnings, received proper instruction, and understand the risks. Do not lend the board to anyone who has not.
•    Specifications, software, firmware and safety instructions change over time. Always check the latest User Manual and safety information on the SiFly website.
•    If anything in this document is unclear, contact SiFly or your authorised SiFly dealer before riding.
 
2. Rider
Who may ride
•    SiFly does not recommend use by anyone under 16 years of age. Stricter local law always applies. Minors should only use this product with the approval and close supervision of a parent or legal guardian. By permitting use, the parent or guardian accepts and bears all risks and responsibilities related to the activity.
•    Only competent swimmers should ride. You must be able to swim back to shore on your own if the eFoil stops working. Sifly is not responsible for rescue expenses due to a malfunction during operation.
•    Get proper instruction before riding on your own. SiFly recommends learning with a qualified instructor or at an eFoil school.
•    Never let an untrained person ride.

Do not ride if you
•    Have been drinking alcohol or have taken drugs or medication that affect balance, judgement or reaction time.
•    Are tired, unwell, injured, or not in full physical and mental control.
•    Are pregnant.
•    Have a heart condition, epilepsy, a pacemaker or other implanted medical device, or any condition that makes powered water sports unsafe. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.
Note: the remote and some SiFly components contain strong magnets. Keep them away from pacemakers, defibrillators and other implanted devices.
Protective equipment
•    Always wear a helmet made for water sports.
•    Always wear a Coast Guard–approved personal flotation device (PFD)/impact vest.
•    Wear a wetsuit when the water is cold. Cold water causes loss of grip, loss of strength and hypothermia much faster than most riders expect. Consider gloves and booties depending on conditions.
•    Do not wear loose clothing, cords, straps or long loose hair that can be caught by the propeller.
•    Protective gear lowers risk. It does not remove it.
 
3. eFoil
Propulsion system
•    The propeller can cause severe or fatal injury. Treat it as live at all times.
•    Keep fingers, toes, hair, clothing and all body parts away from the propeller and duct.
•    Never touch the propeller while the battery is connected, in or out of the water.
•    Never remove weed, rope, fishing line, plastic or any other object from the propeller while the system is powered.
•    The propeller guard ships detached to reduce packaging size. You must fit it before using the eFoil. Do not ride without the propeller guard correctly installed. 
•    Keep the remote switched off or in locked state while carrying, launching, boarding or recovering the board.
•    Only unlock the remote and engage the motor when the board is in deep enough water, you are in starting position, and the propulsion unit is clear of people, animals and objects.
•    Switch off and disconnect the battery before inspecting, cleaning or handling the propulsion unit.
•    Keep children and bystanders away from the propulsion system.
Hydrofoil
•    The mast, front wing and stabiliser have hard surfaces, pointed tips and sharp trailing edges. Contact can cause severe or fatal injury.
•    Falling onto the hydrofoil is one of the most common causes of serious injury in this sport.
•    Always climb onto the board from the side. Keep hands, feet and legs clear of the wings and mast.
•    Do not kick, stand on or strike the hydrofoil.
•    Use protective covers during transport and handling.
Before every ride, check that
•    The board, mast, propulsion unit, battery, front wing and stabiliser have no cracks, dents, impact damage or heavy wear.
•    All screws, bolts and locks are correctly fitted and tight.
•    The propeller and guard are undamaged and clear of sand, rope, weed and debris.
•    The remote and all safety functions work.
•    The battery casing, pressure vent and connectors are clean, dry and undamaged.
•    No water, sand, salt or dirt is inside any electrical connector of the battery, hydrofoil or charger before connecting.
•    The battery and remote have enough charge for the ride you plan, plus a reserve.
Never ride if any part is damaged, loose, corroded, leaking, unusually hot or not working properly.
After a collision, hard impact, grounding or heavy fall, stop riding. Do not use the board again until it has been inspected and confirmed safe.
Modifications and service
•    Use only genuine SiFly parts, batteries, chargers and accessories, or parts SiFly has approved in writing for your model.
•    Do not modify the board, battery, propulsion system, hydrofoil, remote, wiring, connectors, software, firmware or any safety system outside the procedures in the User Manual.
•    Non-approved parts, modifications and improper repairs can create a dangerous condition and will void your warranty.
•    Any work not described in the User Manual as user serviceable must be done by SiFly or an authorised SiFly service partner.
•    Install firmware and software updates when SiFly tells you to, especially updates that affect safety 

4. Battery
The SiFly PowerCell is a high-energy lithium-ion battery. Wrong use, charging, storage, handling or transport can cause electric shock, short circuit, arc flash, overheating, fire, release of harmful substances, serious injury, death or property damage.

Handling
•    Use only genuine SiFly batteries and chargers approved for your specific SiFly product.
•    Inspect the battery before every use.
•    Before connecting, make sure all connectors on the battery, board and charger are completely clean and dry. Remove sand, salt and moisture using only the methods in the User Manual.
•    Never handle electrical connectors with wet hands.
•    Never install or remove the battery while the board is in the water. Do this on shore, in a dry place. When detaching the connectors, do not twist, pull sideways, or apply excessive force, as this may damage them.
•    Never open, take apart, modify or repair the battery.
•    Never puncture, crush, hit, drop or burn the battery.
•    Never put metal objects into the connectors. Keep keys, coins, screws and clips away from the battery.
•    Never use the battery for anything other than its SiFly application.
•    Never put the battery in a microwave, oven, freezer or sealed pressure container.
•    Never place heavy objects on the battery or charger.

Stop using the battery immediately if it
•    Has been dropped or taken a heavy impact.
•    Has a cracked, punctured, bent or swollen case, or a separated seam.
•    Has damaged pressure vent, connectors.
•    Is leaking.
•    Gets unusually hot.
•    Makes hissing, crackling, popping or sizzling sounds.
•    Gives off smoke, steam or any smell.
•    Shows a fault or warning indication, or does not work normally.
Do not charge it. Do not connect it. See section 6 for what to do.

Charging
•    Never charge a battery unattended.
•    Charge only with the original SiFly charger.
•    Charge in a dry, shaded, cool, well-ventilated place.
•    Charge on a non-combustible surface, away from anything that can burn.
•    Charge away from water, rain, direct sunlight and heat sources.
•    Do not charge inside a living space, a bedroom, a hallway used as an escape route, or an attached garage where a fire would reach the house. A detached shed, garage or outbuilding with a working smoke alarm is better.
•    Do not charge SiFly batteries next to batteries from other manufacturers or next to other charging equipment. Do not stack multiple batteries on top of each other neither for storage, nor while charging.
•    Do not cover the battery or charger, and do not put objects on them. Air must circulate freely.
•    Keep children and animals away from the battery, charger and cables.
•    Do not use a charger, cable, plug or connector that is cracked, corroded, bent, frayed, wet or damaged in any way.
•    Salt deposits and debris on contacts can cause overheating and fire. Keep contacts clean and dry.
•    The charger, cables and connectors get hot during charging. Let them cool before you handle them.
•    Disconnect the charger from mains power before you touch, disconnect or move the charging connectors.
Storage
•    Store the battery on a non-combustible surface in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, frost-free place, away from sunlight, heat, moisture, children, animals and anything flammable.
•    Store the battery in the open air or in a detached, non-living structure such as a detached garage, shed or outbuilding, fitted with a working smoke alarm.
•    Never store the battery inside a living space, a boat, a yacht, a vehicle, a caravan, or any enclosed room that people occupy or sleep in, or that connects to one.
•    Follow the storage charge level and temperature limits in the latest User Manual and SiFly app.
•    Never expose the battery to temperatures above 55°C (131°F). Never store it below  0°C (32°F).
•    Do not store the battery for more than one week at a charge below 10%. Prolonged storage at full discharge can permanently damage the cells and make the battery unusable.
•    Never store the battery inside a closed vehicle in the sun.
•    Check stored batteries every month and keep them at the recommended state of charge.
Transport
•    Lithium-ion batteries are regulated dangerous goods. The SiFly PowerCell is classified as UN 3480.
•    Talk to a qualified dangerous goods shipping specialist before arranging transport.
•    Do not transport a fully charged battery by air or over long distances. Unless your carrier or the applicable rules say otherwise, keep the battery at 30% charge or less for regulated transport.
•    Provide the required documents when asked, including the Material Safety Data Sheet and the UN 38.3 test summary.
•    Never ship a damaged, leaking or swollen battery without specific instructions from a dangerous goods specialist and from SiFly.
•    Do not carry the board or battery loose on a car roof.
Disposal
•    Never put a lithium-ion battery in household waste, in fire or in water.
•    Used, damaged and end-of-life batteries must be recycled through an authorised lithium-ion collection or recycling facility.
•    Contact SiFly, your authorised SiFly distributor or a local approved recycling site for instructions. SiFly accepts used PowerCell batteries back free of charge for proper recycling.
 
5. Riding
Where to ride
•    Ride in sheltered water: bays, lakes, rivers and canals.
•    Minimum water depth is 1.5 m. The hydrofoil hangs up to 1 m below the board.
•    Stay away from shallow water, rocky bottoms, reefs, sandbanks, docks, pilings, moorings and the shoreline.
•    Never ride where there are swimmers, surfers, divers, snorkellers or people fishing.
•    Keep a wide distance from boats, other watercraft and any other person on the water.
•    Do not ride in busy areas, restricted traffic zones, protected nature areas, or anywhere powered watercraft are not allowed.
•    The eFoil is electric. That does not mean it is allowed where combustion engines are banned. Check local regulations first.
•    Never ride further from shore than you can swim back. 
•    Have a support boat if you plan to ride more than 300 m from shore.
•    Avoid weed beds, floating rope, netting, plastic, wood and other debris.
•    Do not ride in polluted or contaminated water.
•    The eFoil can attract predatory marine wildlife. Know your area and avoid places where dangerous wildlife is present.
When to ride
•    Check the weather and the forecast before every ride, including wind, storms, rain and fog. Never ride in a thunderstorm.
•    Do not ride in strong wind, big waves, strong current, riptides or poor visibility.
•    The eFoil has no lights. Do not ride after sunset or before sunrise.
•    Do not ride in the surf zone or in breaking waves. The board is not designed for it.
•    Consider water and air temperature. Cold water is dangerous even on a warm day.
Who is with you
•    Never ride alone. Ride with someone, or under the direct supervision of a person who can help you immediately.
•    Tell someone on shore where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Speed and control
•    Ride at a speed that lets you stop, turn or cut power in time to avoid a hazard that appears suddenly.
•    Build up power gradually. Do not accelerate hard before you are stable.
•    Keep a constant lookout. Swimmers, divers and obstacles can be hidden by waves, glare or low light.
•    Slow down before sharp turns, near other water users, and whenever space or visibility is limited.
•    Handling at high speed is limited. A sudden turn can cause loss of control.
•    Only attempt jumps, high-speed turns and carving after you have fully mastered the basics.
•    Follow all right of way, navigation, speed and wildlife rules that apply where you ride.
Falling
•    Release the trigger the moment you commit to a fall. Practise this at low speed until it is automatic. If you cannot release the trigger, for example if your hand clenches in a fall, put the remote underwater. It loses connection to the board and the motor stops in under a second.
•    Fall to the side and away from the board.
•    Never jump forward in front of a moving eFoil. You risk being run over by the board and hydrofoil.
•    Get as far from the board, mast, wings and propulsion unit as you can before you hit the water.
•    Once your weight is off the hydrofoil wings, you cannot recover balance. Commit to the fall early rather than fighting it.
After every ride
•    Release the throttle and switch off the remote before taking the board out of the water.
•    Take the board out of the water before you remove the battery or take anything apart.
•    Remove the battery only on land. 
•    Rinse the board, mast, propulsion unit and wings with fresh water.
•    Remove salt, sand, weed and debris only when the battery is disconnected from the board.
•    Dry and inspect everything before storage.
•    Store the battery separately, as described in section 4.
•    Do not use aggressive chemicals, petrol, diesel, contact cleaner, citrus cleaner, WD-40 or unsuitable lubricants. They damage seals, plastics, coatings and electrical parts.
•    Avoid contact between the board and sunscreen, thread locker and fuel.
 
6. Emergency and Incidents
If a battery overheats, swells, smokes or catches fire
•    Do not touch the battery with unprotected hands.
•    Get everyone away from it immediately. Lithium-ion fires produce toxic gas.
•    Call the fire service. Tell them it is a lithium-ion battery.
•    Disconnect mains power only if you can do it safely.
•    If you can do it without touching the battery, move it to a large open non-combustible area, or fully submerge it in a container of water.
•    To fight the fire, use a fire extinguisher rated for electrical fires, large amounts of plain cold water without additives, or large amounts of sand.
•    A lithium-ion battery can reignite hours after it appears to be out. Keep it isolated and under observation.
•    Never open or attempt to repair a battery that has overheated or burned.
If you lose control or the board stops working
•    Release the throttle or if you cannot do that submerge the remote underwater.
•    Stay with the board. It floats and it makes you visible.
•    Signal for help.
•    Do not attempt to swim back if you are beyond the distance you can swim comfortably.
Report it
•    Report any fire, serious injury, or product failure to SiFly or your authorised SiFly dealer as soon as possible.
•    Keep the product and packaging. Do not dispose of, repair or modify anything involved in an incident before SiFly has had the chance to inspect it.
•    Reporting helps SiFly identify safety issues and may be required by law in your country.
 
7. Legal
•    Nothing in this document excludes or limits any liability, right or remedy that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
•    To the fullest extent the law allows, SiFly is not responsible for injury, loss or damage caused by: 
o    use that goes against the User Manual or these safety warnings;
o    operation by an untrained, underage, impaired or medically unfit rider;
o    use in unsafe, prohibited or unsuitable conditions;
o    failure to inspect or maintain the product;
o    use of damaged equipment;
o    exceeding stated operating, temperature or load limits;
o    unauthorised modification or repair;
o    use of non-approved parts, batteries or chargers;
o    breach of navigation rules or local law; or
o    reckless, deliberate or negligent operation.
•    The rider is responsible for judging their own ability, the weather, the water, the traffic around them, local hazards, and whether riding is legal in that location.
•    SiFly does not take responsibility for finding out local rules on your behalf. Registration, licensing, insurance and equipment requirements vary by country and region, and are the rider's responsibility.
•    Depending on where you ride, third party liability insurance may be required by law. Check and arrange it yourself.
•    Different duty of care, maintenance and warranty conditions may apply for commercial use, including rental, instruction, demonstration and school use. If you operate the product commercially, you are responsible for instructing every rider, checking their eligibility, and providing correct protective equipment.
•    If you sell, lend, rent or transfer the eFoil, you must pass on the User Manual and these safety warnings to the new user.
•    Following these instructions lowers risk. It does not remove the risks that are part of efoiling.
•    If any part of this document is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
